LAND; A PANACEA TO GENERATIONAL PENURY
Land, as defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, is the solid part of the earth surface; an area of the ground. It is no doubt the most viable gift that God has given to mankind. The Holy Bible gave credence to this fact when man was given the dominion to subdue and replenish the earth surface. Be it as it may, acquisition of land was a gateway to eternal affluence in Europe during the 16th and 17th Centuries. In fact, feudalism has been in Medieval Europe between the 11th and 13th Centuries. Needless to say that the rush and the desire to acquire land were parts of the foremost reasons for the French Revolution of 1789. The Land Use Acts of 1978 under the General Olusegun Obasanjo administration declared all land as property of the Federal government. This gives the assertion on how important land is, even to a military government. Land could be acquired through inheritance, gift or purchase. Whichever way one is acquiring this natural entity, land is indeed a viable option for financial liberation. In recent times, owners of landed property have had changed financial stories from feeding from hand to mouth to living in abundance. It must therefore be noted that there are numerous reasons that contribute to land been a foremost resource for wealth.
First, land is indeed a host to various natural resources. These natural deposits could fetch handsome income for the owner of such land. Also, land could be use to execute agricultural activities, both crop farming and animal production. Cash crops such as cocoa, rubber, groundnut, etc, could be cultivated on the land. The proceeds from the sales of these items will certainly be a financial blessing to its owner. In addition, the rapid development of rural settlements metamorphosing into hubs is another means for land owners to end poverty. Today, government and private individuals have given villages face lift via the establishment of tertiary institutions, hospitals, shopping malls, to mention just a few. It is evident that mass areas of land are needed for this huge project hence; owners of land have become millionaires overnight. To buttress this fact, communities playing hosts to Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education will have to provide residential houses for staff and students hence, owners of landed property erect buildings which in no doubt is going to eradicate poverty from their lives forever.
Furthermore, there is no denial from the fact that land is a factor of production that keeps appreciating due to its potential values. For example, a piece of land that goes on sales for #500,000 may hike up to #5,000,000 within 24 months. This is to say that land is very valuable. Today, Nigerians have woken up from their slumbers. They now give utmost credence to acquisition of land. In Lagos State for example, littoral areas are now been sand filled and sold in breath taking prices. These places include the Lekki/Ajah axis in Eti Osa Local Government, Lagos State. In the Eastern parts of Nigeria, landed property have greatly turned around the financial strength of several persons through agricultural activities, erection of buildings for rent etc. There was a case study of Mr Ndubisi kalu, from Udi Local Government, Enugu State who engaged in production of farm animals from the piece of land he inherited from his father. But today, Mr Kalu is a proud owner of several other properties within and outside Enugu state. Investment in landed property is without doubt capable of elevating one from mire of lacks into eternal affluence. Unlike automobiles which could be easily devastated by accident and constant maintenance, landed property is easy to maintain without much renovation. Therefore, anyone that seek financial breakthrough should seize every opportunity to procure land, especially now that various real estate companies and agencies has made lands and property acquisition easy anywhere in Nigeria.
